“Ba-ba-ba… dook! Dook! DOOOOOKH!”
I can honestly say that I had very low expectations after I previewed the trailer for this film. It could have easily been just another film playing off of the success of the “Slender-man” craze. Thankfully, that 8.2/10 rating on Rotten Tomatoes was, dare I say, scary straight up accurate.
The real magic of The Babadook is in the fact that there are no jump scares to be had, because the film itself is scary and rightfully sits in my Legendary Hall of Horror.
This Australian film directed by Jennifer Kent, tells the story of the widowed single mother Amelia who is trying to raise her troubled son Samuel who keeps talking about a “babadook”. The Babadook is a character from a messed up children’s book that scares the pampers off young Samuel. Trust me, you at first will freaking hate Samuel. I just about quit watching the movie because of how annoying that kid is. DON’T QUIT WATCHING THE MOVIE.
Anyway, if you want a good alternative horror movie to watch, check out The Babadook.
